Protecting Your Tax Dollars!
···················································································································
Virginia has one of the nation's fastest growing economies. Earlier this year the Commonwealth was named one of the two best-managed states in the country. Much of this is due to the strong leadership of Governor Mark Warner. Last year's tax reform lowered the income tax for everyone and eliminated the "marriage penalty." The tax code also phased in the elimination of the "food tax" on groceries. I'm tired of some Delegates in Richmond who mortgage the future of Virginia to get elected. We need responsible public servants in the General Assembly.

As a fiscal conservative, I will always support lowering the tax burden on Virginians. I believe that we must adopt a pay as we go mentality on spending. When we control spending, we control taxes.

As your Delegate, I will be your advocate in Richmond, protecting our hard earned money.

Keeping Our Community Safe!
···················································································································
The 84 th District proudly boasts one of the very best law enforcement organizations in all of Virginia. This however, does not mean that our safety is not threatened.

In the past few years we have witnessed situations where small children have died after being left home alone or in a car. These tragedies were the result of single mothers unable to find safe childcare. As the mother of two young sons, I know we can find ways to provide childcare facilities that are staffed and medically equipped to take care of our youngest citizens. Nothing is more important than the safety of our children. I support tougher sentencing on sexual predators whether physically or on the Internet and full training and implementation of the Amber Alert system, further protecting our children from any kind of harm.

We must continue to support programs like "Just Say No." I believe drug use and gang related activity can be suppressed only by focusing on early prevention and intervention programs. Creating safer communities outside of school must be a priority. Our police department needs proper funding for new officers so that we can put more police officers back in the community. We need better pay to retain Virginia's finest.

As your Delegate, I will continue to support our fire and police in seeking funding for the outstanding service, training and commitment they provide our community, as well as working with private and public facilities to find a way to provide childcare for those who are unable to afford it.

Honoring Military Families!
···················································································································
Virginia Beach, and the 84 th District, is the home of some of the world's greatest military bases and military families. As a proud Navy wife, I have a personal connection to the challenges we face. My husband Damien is an
F/A-18 fighter pilot presently onboard the USS Harry Truman serving in the war on terror. This is Damien's fourth six-month deployment and second tour of duty in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

When serving as President of the Oceana Officers Spouses Club, I was a vocal, public advocate for Navy families. When the issue of base closure arose and opposition to jet noise came to a head, I spoke at hearings with Senator John Warner, the Navy League, the Association for Naval Aviators and congressional and city officials. I was privileged to reiterate how important it is to keep NAS Oceana open in order to provide a quality lifestyle for Navy families, particularly in the 84 th District.

As your Delegate, I will be a leader in bringing Republicans and Democrats together to "put their money where their mouth is" when they say "We Support our Troops!"

Providing a World-Class Education for our Kids!
···················································································································
Due to the dedication of our teachers and administrators and the excellence of our students, Virginia Beach boasts one of the highest caliber school systems in the Commonwealth. No doubt, our children receive a quality education. Still, major discrepancies exist on the state level in how much funding one locality receives versus another.

Virginia Beach children deserve a world-class education from the time they enter pre-school to the time they leave college.

As your Delegate, I will seek to ensure that our children compete on a level playing field and that we increase education spending, so that we can improve teacher salaries and reduce class sizes.

Drivers Deserve Better!
···················································································································
Driving in Hampton Roads is always an adventure. Planning what time to leave my house to avoid "tunnel traffic" and facing delays when bringing my sons to basketball practice are frustrations I know we all face. We shouldn't have to spend our family time in the family car.

We need to reform the Virginia Department of Transportation, providing them with the most innovative technology and forcing them to meet deadlines or face consequences. No longer will it be acceptable to be months behind schedule just a few weeks into projects. We need to finish projects that have been under construction for years, promote "Smart Growth" plans for our cities and create private-public partnerships that can produce the results we need.

As your Delegate, I will work to continue to fix this essential department so that we can continue to move forward.

Keeping Virginia Beach Healthy!
···················································································································
Investing in our environment and natural resources is a wise decision. Our economic strength is tied to the natural resources of Southeastern Virginia including the water we fish and the soil we plant. However, time and growth have taken a tremendous toll on our air, land and sea.

We who live in Virginia Beach have an even greater stake in protecting our environment. Tourism is such an important part of the local economy and it is our responsibility to protect our environment not only for those who visit, but also for those of us who live here.

As your Delegate, I will seek to ensure that everyone in our market-driven economy is aware of the rewards of supporting our environment.

Supporting and Strengthening Our Families!
···················································································································
Our family is part of the congregation of St. Nicholas Catholic Church. I call St. Nick's our home away from home because it embodies everything that is good in a parish community. Ever since I converted to Catholicism, I have been an active volunteer for the Right of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) program. Accepting Jesus Christ as my savior has been a life transforming experience and definitely one that continues to nourish my soul. I have been forever changed by my service to Christ, and I believe in promoting a community that encourages each of us to find and sustain our own sense of spiritual well being in this complex and beautiful world.

As your Delegate, I will support family values that inspire us all to live together in a respectful society.
